About the Position:

UOWD is seeking applications from candidates to fill the position of Head of IT to commence preferably in September 2022.


The Head of IT is responsible for providing leadership to the UOWD Information Technology team in regards to all information technology services and ensure that technology is fully leveraged to tactically execute organisation’s strategy and direct & oversee the performance of Organisation IT


Work with the Executive Director Finance and Administration (EDFA) UOWD and the Portfolio Manager (Global Enterprises) IMTS to implement and operationalise the strategic plans of the Organisation. Track current and long-term objectives and set adequate operating plans in support of future developments. Manage the team, operations, activities and achievement of the organisation's objectives in accordance with agreed operating plans and budgets.


The Head of IT manages, monitors, develops, and maintains the integrity and security of the University of Wollongong in Dubai (UOWD) IT network, servers, systems and infrastructure, whether it be on-campus or externally provisioned.


The Head of IT is responsible for development, maintenance, security and support of the UOWD IT infrastructure, network and Internet security and any other cybersecurity threats.

Education and Experience:

Essential:              


Relevant tertiary qualification in an Information Technology related degree;

Minimum 7 years’ experience in senior technology systems and security roles in medium size corporate / enterprise organization.  University IT operations experience is desirable;

Excellent English communication skills;

Experience in leading technical support and service staff

Experience managing a team

Experience in service management principles (e.g. ITIL)

Demonstrated experience in the following technologies and able to maintain & lead others to manage:

Network switching devices such as Cisco, Brocade, Aruba and Mellanox;

Network protocols and functions for Internet based applications;

Network telephony system modules, ISDN, Voice IP, Video Conferencing, Wireless networks, VPN, VLAN network aggregation and resiliency, RADIUS authentication and NAC solution;

Maintenance of documentation related to network and systems infrastructure design and implementation

Public DNS, WAF, load balancer and application delivery controller (e.g. CloudFlare, Citrix NetScaler)

Routers, firewall, Layer 2/3/4 switches, bandwidth management, traffic analysers, log management and network security;

Highly Desirable Knowledge:


Demonstrated experience in the following technologies and able to lead others to manage:

Microsoft Windows and Linux operating systems, Virtualization infrastructure, previous programming or scripting experience; experience with troubleshooting hardware;

Enterprise security systems, antivirus systems and backup systems;

Knowledge and Skills:

Essential


Understanding of cyber security threats, incidence response and cyber risk mitigation;

Ability to identify and implement failover systems where redundancy is required;

Ability and motivation to learn new technologies quickly and with minimal support and guidance;

Proficiency with operating systems, e.g. RH Linux, MAC, Windows operating systems;

Knowledge of Internet services such as DNS, NFS, DHCP, printing, FTP service and SSL;

Effective communication skills and the ability to interact professionally with a diverse group of faculty, students and staff;

Understanding of ITIL service management principles

Ability to work productively in a team environment;

Good problem-solving abilities and a “can do” attitude;

Understanding of excellent IT service management;

Understanding of IT project management principles and

Understanding of IT risk management.

Ability to design and implement a localised disaster recovery strategy.

Desirable:


Understanding of the security of database servers (E.g. Microsoft SQL, My SQL, FileMaker);

Secure web servers such as Apache with mod_ssl and IIS and

Remuneration and Benefits:

The successful candidates will receive a remuneration package which includes an attractive tax free salary ranging from AED 348,000 - AED 396,000 per annum, 30 working days of paid leave per year, annual air ticket for staff and eligible dependents, private medical insurance for staff and eligible dependents, life & disability policy for staff, professional development assistance, education allowance for up to 3 eligible children, professional development and fee waiver for self and dependents looking to pursue higher studies.
