New WhatsApp feature for greater security and privacy

Android users will soon have a new way to secure their WhatsApp accounts and protect their conversations from any potential risk. Users who already have Android phones can use their fingerprint to unlock the app, but soon they will be able to use the facial recognition sensor on their phone as well – or any other biometric sensor on their phone.

iPhone users have been able to unlock WhatsApp with that feature for some time thanks to apple's Face ID app support, but this is the first time the feature will be available for Android devices.

The author of the discovery of that impressive feature is researchers at WABetaInfo whose main task lies in searching WhatsApp's experimental versions to find new features under development but not yet released. Their latest work is to discover the redesigned Privacy Settings page for Android, where the current Fingerprint Lock option has been replaced by biometric Lock.
This is a major development in the privacy settings of one of the world's most popular messaging apps, where billions use it. Very soon you will be able to use WhatsApp freely and unlock it either by fingerprint or facial recognition.

Want to try the new WhatsApp feature?

There's no way to know when biometric authentication will become available for Android, but if you want to be the first to try it, you'll need to join the WhatsApp trial because that feature isn't available on the final version yet.

To join the Android trial version, visit the WhatsApp Beta page on Google Play, and enter your details. If you already have the generic version of the software installed on your device, it will be automatically updated to the trial version within a few hours.
It is worth mentioning that WhatsApp is currently working to add account opening support on more than one device because many of us have more than one phone. The new feature will accurately synchronize the account with all associated devices.
In order to try that feature as well, you will have to join the trial version of the app as it is not officially available on the final version at the moment.
